Loft Insulation Rockwool Fibresbronchial Danger ?

A few years back our local housing association decided to re-roof and insulate our loft. They did a good job on our 50 odd year old house.A year ago we decide to get a small firm to board the loft and fit an electric light and ladders for a fixed price he point Outa load of it left up there.Its down to mmeee to dispose of in bags..is it toxic or harmful to breath in/lung damage or not.??? Thanks for any advice.

It depends what was used for the insulation. It should be harmless. To be on the safe side I would wear a face mask, goggles, overalls and gloves. Afterwards wash everything worn and have a good shower.

I've just re-read your post. Rockwool should be safe, but I would still do what I've posted above.

Are you sure it is rockwool or has someone just used a generic name (how many people use a real Biro or Hoover but most people use the name)? Rockwool is safe but, going back 50 years it may have been, say, fibreglass. Nevertheless, taking waterboatman's advice should be fine - it's what I did when I icreased the thickness of insulation in our loft. Without the face mask etc you are likely to end up itching for a day or two and, perhaps, an irritated throat as well.
