Does anyone wear them anymore? I normally wear a hat to a wedding, but never have done for a funeral. But then I'm lucky enough never to have been a prominent part of a funeral before.
I've got a funeral coming up (Mr BMs father) and it's going to be quite a big one and I am quite conscious that I'll be "on display" and the one of the main hosts to the wake. Clearly, I do not want to let Mr BM Snr or Mr BM down.
I've got a 50s style dress, jacket, clutch bag and heels - I have entered a much more feminine stage in the last 18 months. Is a pill box hat with a tiny net too much do you think? (Although a friend of mine suggested a full veil so I can get shedded at the wake and no one will notice my eyes.............) I quite fancy one, but dont know if it is "too much".
A pill box will only take a miniature or, at best, a quarter bottle. However, a hat with a full crown might hold a half bottle. As for clutch bags, you must be joking - you can no longer buy a packet of 10 cigarettes. BTW - nets mean you have to cut a larger hole for the ciggie.
Lol, that's quite funny, Chris. Perhaps we should start at "what not to play at funerals thread".
Although when trying to speak to the Coroner's Officer last week I had some stroppy cow on the switchboard trying to tell me what their roles were "He has to confirm the fact of death" so I couldnt resist saying "He's been in a bloody fridge at the hospital for two weeks I should have thought the fact of death was obvious".
Jackie O is back in fashion now because her clothes were stylish and ladylike...but not on me..I look like a cross between mama cass and Janis Joplin...no amount of nice clothes would make me look anything other than an old hippie...! Oh and I wore black when I married....
I have so many scarves of different colours that I've bought to go to funerals where it's been stated... Please wear something...red, yellow, pink, green, orange purple, blue. :-)
I think a pill box with a small net sounds very dignified. I've been to two funerals recently my brother's m-i-l and my neighbour's 38 year old son. I don't have any black clothes except trousers, so just wore those, a top and my red coat (which is very smart). Nobody minded, and at the funeral of the young man everybody had to wear red as he was a massive Liverpool supporter.
