Checking through my answers before sending them off, I thought I should query the following: 40. Lecturing in a particular part of Berkshire (7).
?READING
53. Tea (9). (Only up to a degree!) ?DOCTORATE

Thank you

Without knowing anything about your quiz I query READING on the grounds that lecturing is dispensing knowledge whereas reading is absorbing knowledge.
Hopefully this will keep your post where experts will see it.
A reader in a university is a lecturer so 40 looks OK.

Reading the riot act = lecturing.
53 Doctorate looks good also
To doctor the letters "ate" gives "tea"
Both right I think.
