...as it's the late great man's 100th birthday!

Tis due to pigeons that alight
On Nelsons's hat that makes it white.

My favourite is from one of his books, when in the concert party he recalls wearing a short jacket which he believed made him look very dapper.
A colleague asked: Why are you wearing that?
Milligan: Cab Calloway wears one.
Colleague: He must be a c#%*

Priceless!
A tortured soul, with comedic genius.
The only thing to follow all that is:
niddle, naddle, noo, folks!
Is there anything worn under the kilt? No, it's all in perfect working order.
Question Author
One of my childhood heroes.
I still have my "Silly Verse For Kids" "A Book Of Milliganimals" and "A Dustbin Of Milligan" from my childhood, all a bit dog-eared and yellow in the pages now.
I Loved the stories too eg. "The Bald-Headed Twit Lion".
Any more?
It wasn't " I left my shoes and socks there. . . ." It was "I left my vest and socks there - I wonder if they're dry."
But how about
" There's little oles up in the sky,
"that's where the rain gets in.
"They're only ever such little oles,
"that's why the rain is thin."
"What are you doing there, soldier ?"
"Well everyone's got to be somewhere, sir !"
He was clearly very clever and very amusing and I've read a couple of his books, but I can't quite detach myself from what a thoroughly unpleasant person he seemed to be alongside his fellow Goon Peter Sellers, so I quite shy away form his work. I appreciate he suffered from mental illness but even so he made his first wife's life a total misery, along with a good few others.
There are holes in the sky
Where the rain gets in
But they're ever so small
That's why the rain is thin.
