I want to get one of these. My first thought was that I would like a manual one because I don't want electric cables trailing across the floor. When I tried some out in a store yesterday, there are only two settings, fully extended or fully retracted. I couldn't control how far I wanted to extend the leg rest. With the electric ones, you can halt the leg extension anywhere you want. Has anyone got a manual recliner with differing levels of leg extension?

Why not get something like the Stressless recliner with the separate foot rest.

I have leather manual reclining settees, but the trouble with these is getting the force needed in my legs to pushed them back into the closed position.

Danny - thanks for the links. I want the chair partly to replace and existing one with footstool so I don't really want to buy another stool. Thanks AOG - I did notice that you need some force to close the legrest and as it's going to be cream leather, I would think it could get marked when doing that if I`m not careful.
The manual one my Mum used to have had a big lever. That solved the problem of needing to push with your legs to stow the legrest, but there were no intermediate positions.
Just checked with a major retailer of recliners. She said only powered riser recliners have this option manual ones are all or nothing. There are some rechargeable ones that would mean they wouldn't have leads connected all the time.
If it is only one chair - then go for the electric - I'm just in from furniture shops and they are all brilliant. Only one wire and you can put it behind the chair.

Thanks for the replies and Rowan, thanks for making enquiries - that was really kind. I don't want a riser recliner, just a bog standard leather recliner from Furniture World or somewhere. Looks like it'll have to be electric. I`m not too bothered about the wire here as it will be fairly near the power point but was just thinking about the situation when I move from here. I guess I`ll think about that at the time.
a very comfortable recliner (electric) in Oaklandfurniture
I got a super recliner, (not leather I’m afraid) from the British Heart Foundation charity. It’s electric and only cost £100.

It might be an idea to check out their website.
Chrissa - did you order it from their online site
i got a great one on ebay for 17.20!
No, I. There is a branch in Newcastle upon Tyne. I went there. However, I’m sure you can.
That should have read....... No, jj. :)
