One of my relatives is visiting America later in the year and is thinking of getting one of the pre-paid cards. I know they can be used in ATMs but are they also widely accepted in shops and restaurants?
Hello
Regard to USA prepaid card its accepted as mean of payment in shops and restaurant also it can be used online or at brick-and-mortar locations to make purchases, pay bills or get cash at a point of sale or from an ATM only bad thing about it the high fees that you have to pay to get it
We used a pre paid, Travel Money card when we last went away. You do not have to pay a fee to obtain one. We used it just like a debit card in shops , restaurants and bars. We did not use an ATM though.
We got ours because we felt it was safer to use a card that had a limited amount available on it, rather than out bank current account debit or credit card.
There is an accompanying App available whereby you can transfer money onto the card from your current account, should you need to, whilst you're away.
Thanks again for the information. She wondered if she could transfer money on to the card. Apart from not wanting to take cash, she also didn't want to use her debit/credit card.
