Assuming you have receieved appropriate medication, try hard to explain this distressing condition to your nearest and dearest. How you need time to have peace and quiet, and you will be better, but it will take time.

Try to exercise a little every day if you are able. When it's really bad, try to sleep, and get through that time, and enjoy the lighter times when they come.

Confide in someone if you can - there are a few people on here with experience who will always support you.
vigorous exercise is supposed to be great for depression. Say, 20-40 minutes at a pace that makes you sweat & get out of breath
I think you would get more answers if you posted in Body & Soul.

I do sympathise, having suffered on and off for over 30 years. What I can tell you is that bouts usually recur, that when you are in the middle of a bout, it feels as if you always have been depressed and always will be, but with each bout you tend to become more resilient, and eventually, all though you still suffer, there is a sort of second part of you that acts as an observer and knows that it will not last for ever. Consequently, as you get older, the bouts tend to get shorter and less severe.
rojash I found your reply very good. I have suffered from depression for about 12 years now and although I still take two serozat a day I do feel better, and than doooown I go again.as you said it feels like you have alwas been depressed. But then you feel better again after a while which makes you feel good.I find if I have been on a very high upper than there is a low coming soon after. I cannot sleep and stay awake all night and so it goes on. My husband has noticed when I am going down again but just doesn't know what to do. Really all I want is to be left alone.Time is the best healer.I like to listen to classical music (although it sounds sad to some people) and be by myself. The big black cloud or blanket that towers above my head will lift, I know that now. hope this is of some help. Brenda
