Change of DD date for loan
5 Answers
I have a loan with NatWest, payment for which comes out of my NatWest account via Direct Debit, on 25th of the month. I recently changed jobs, and now get paid on 28th of the month. I just phoned NatWest to get my DD payment changed to 30th of the month, and they've said they can't do this unless I make a payment on 25th, then one on 30th (i.e. make 2 payments this month), and continue paying on 30th of each month until the end of the loan. I think it's ridiculous that they can't just change the DD date to a few days later - does anyone have any ideas about how I could pursue this? Thanks in advance!!

It might be too late to change the details of July's payment as they need about 5 days notice. If they don't agree, call your bank and cancel the DD.
When you set it back up, specify that you want it on the 30th. I'd imagine most DDs can come out between the first and the 28th though to cover Feb and weekends at the end of the month.

As your current account & the loan are both with NatWest they will probably say you can't cancel the DD. I think there will be something in the small print of the loan agreement about this.
You could open a current account with another bank, set up the DD with them for 30th, stop paying any money into your NatWest a/c and close it. OR tell them that's what you will do unless they agree to the change.

Thanks guys, I've calmed down a bit now - I think I was just a bit riled because I'd already changed 4 other DDs today with no problem, and I didn't understand what the big deal was!
I think I'll just bite the bullet and transfer some funds from my savings to cover the extra payment : )
Thanks again for your help! :D

Make sure you give enough notice of any changes to DD's as I missed one of mine and got charged an admin fee of 5 for bouncing one by Utility Warehouse. Also Telewest have a ridiculous system: if you change banks you have to pay the next bill manually at a bank or P.O. as you are technically in arrears (and can't set up a D.D. in arrears)Then you wait till it clears and phone to set up new D.D. They charge a 4 admin fee for not paying by D.D. meanwhile.......
