Is this seriously the best we can do? Do the police not realise that walking around in flipping black plimmies will soon get to be seen as some sort of Gangsta status symbol like having your pants round your thighs used to be? Crikey.

well perhaps they should strip them down to their pants and brand "drug dealing scum" on their forehead with a red hot iron. That would be less cool.

I saw the “hundred pairs of trainers” story on TV. Apparently many of them were unworn and still in their boxes and some were never worn signed limited editions, in total the haul was worth thousands.

I worked in a school with difficult children some years ago and the deputy head used to strip the trouble makers of what he called their status symbols - trainers, fashion of the day etc and it did seem to cut them down to size in the eyes of the less 'with it' kids, but I'm not sure it will work these days.
