Easter Road Travel

I am traveling from North London (Crouch End) to Bournemouth on Good Friday and wanted to know if anybody had an idea of the best time to travel to avoid all the Easter traffic on the roads? As long as I am in Bournemouth before 6pm any suggestion are welcome!

To be honest, the weather will play a big factor. I don't think it is supposed to be a brilliant weekend, so everyone won't be rushing to the seaside. Thurs afternoon is now usually worse than Good Friday for traffic. I assume you will cut across to the A40, round the M25 and down the M3. The worst bit will be around Hanger Lane on the A40 and the M25 bit. Once you get past J3 of the M3 you shouldn't have too many problems. With no traffic, you could do it in a couple of hours, so I would certainly leave by 2pm to get there for 6pm, if not a bit earlier.

AARGGHH just wrote th longest answer that was deleted cos of profanities and i didn't even use one!! anyway, thousands of people will be going, so it won't make a difference what time you go, i used to live in bmth and know this. The route you'll take (m27 etc) is the only one into bmth from london etc so everyone is on it plus it goes down to two lanes before the new forest. take some cds and accept you'll be stuck in traffic, it makes life easier, plus there's a little chef near rufus' stone which helps! it's worth going cos bmth is wicked and if you want any tips on where to go let me know. you could leave early or late but it won't make a difference, have fun and say hello to the sea for me! x

Thanks guys and girls. Ah a Little Thief, it's not a road trip unless you have been ripped off with one of their olympic breakfasts! Any tips on bars/clubs would very much appreciated Becks and i will certainly let the sea know you are missing it. Cheers!

Ah sorry DK, just checked back so wasn't able to give tips! hope you had a great time anyway, i'm sure you did, elements was where i spent most of uni although new bars are popping up all the time. i'm not a fan of chains so no yates or bar med, prefer Bliss and Toko. If you didn't go this time, make sure you go back down for Klute, which is near the BIC and apparently is a celeb hang-out, although i never saw any. although darren anderton used to frequent FYEO and Spearmint Rhino... ah how i miss uni days...

Hi Becks, I did have a great time and did go to Bliss and Toko both of which were very good. I steyed with a friend who is working there at the mo so was able to avoid some of the less attarctive venues. Being a Spurs season ticket holder I am pleased to hear that Darren Anderton is spending his money in strip bars rather than playing!
