Compliments

Do you find it difficult to accept a compliment?
Had someone today tell me that I have a lovely smile.(smiling is a rarity but it does happen occasionaly...) Then later on someone told me that I looked good dressed all in black (shirt, jeans, shoes etc) and the same person told me that I don't look my age (52).
I actually found it all a bit disconcerting....don't know why?
Bit weird really.

I’m terrible receiving compliments. No idea why. I know my mum or Dad never praised me so it it that?? God knows lol.

No Sqad....why would you get compliments from your kids for no reason?

My daughter doesn't compliment me and we have a great relationship. I didn't think my youngest did either until I met his partner who said he was jealous of our relationship. My middle is full of compliments but he doesn't mean to.

I think it's a British thing. We all feel awkward accepting compliments. The other day someone said to me 'You've had your hair cut. It looks nice.' I immediately wailed 'It's too short!' and then I just accepted the remark and said thank you.

The problem with "compliments" is, now, compared to the previous generation are "spewed" out with great aplomb to incidents or situations not needing "compliments" giving someone the impression that they are better than reality.
Compliments now are given out ten a penny and in my opinion the majority are meaningless.
How many times has a fellow told a very ordinary looking woman, that she is gorgeous....her hair looks nice.....she has a lovely figure, when it is clearly untrue.
Why not wait until someone DESERVES a compliment?

My Doctor told me I didn't look my age. Who am I to argue?....

I don't think they're dished out to easily, Sqad, but maybe we're talking about different types of compliments. It's sometimes when compliments are not meant. Like my son inviting his GF for dinner and saying I'm a really good cook. He wasn't saying to me but it's still a compliment because I heard him say it. It's simple things like that.
