How do insects breathe???

Could someone please explain how a spider or ant and other insects breathe in our climate. Surely they need oxgen but do not possess lungs???

Oxygen and carbon dioxide can exchange by diffusion. The oxygen dissolves in the body fluids or diffuses directly to the muscles. Muscular contractions of the abdomen or contractions of the flight muscles can assist in pumping gasses through the system.
