Often during the summer when all the windows and doors are open one small fly will start going round and round and then round and round in reverse beneath the central room light .I have noticed this many times over the years and always wondered why?Any ideas?

They'll circle within this zone, waiting for a female to turn up. Occasionally they'll settle on the lamp to see if a female is, or has been, there - or maybe just to have a rest.
Just for fun, try this...screw up a small piece of paper into a fly-sized lump, and flick it toward the fly. It'll show immediate interest!
