Best Type Of Mdf Primer To Use?

I have had some missing shelves built back into a cupboard and I want to paint them. They are bare MDF, and I would like to use gloss for the top coats to make it hardwearing. I bought some MDF primer (Flag brand from Tool Station) but on the point of starting the primer application, I noticed it was water based. I have looked at some articles on the net, and some say only use oil based, because the MDF doesn't react well to moisture. However a lot of the MDF primers being sold even by well known manufacturers eg. Crown., seem to be water based. Not sure what to do now, don't have any experience to draw on. Would it be better to try to get an oil based one since I'm going to be putting gloss on top of it? Is it a bad move to trap moisture under the gloss? Any help from anyone who knows about this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

That site lists only water-based primer for your MDF, so you should be OK.

MDF only deteriorates if left exposed to water. Water-based primers are largely the norm now. Go ahead :o)
