Emails.

I can receive them but not send them. It says my user name or password are incorrect. I have this every year when we go abroad but when we come home it usually rights itself. This time it hasn't. Had my local bug fixer man round today, he couldn't sort it. He tried every variation of what my password could be but no good.
When I try to send emails they go to my outbox.
When we were on holiday we were totally incommunicado. I didn't receive the message to say welcome to France so my mobile didn't work. I couldn't send emails. OH had a new phone. He managed to lock it and couldn't fathom out how to unlock it.

I'm using Gmail and have been involved in a long reply thread with another user (his own domain mail) and every now and again it will quite randomly cc someone else in my contacts into the reply ( which is pretty embarrassing). I've had this happen twice now, once with 3 people cc'd in and both times I'm sure I didn't select anyone at all. Quite nervous about using it now but don't really want to abandon that email unless i have to. Any ideas?
Let's get a useful tip out of the way first:
If you can't send and/or receive GMX emails via whichever email app you use on your iPad, you've always got a back-up plan available to you:
Simply launch your web browser (which will be Safari unless you've installed something else), go to https:/ /www.gm x.co.uk and log into your email account there. That does away with the need to worry about things like SMTP servers (which is what's been causing your problems), so you'll ALWAYS be able to access your emails. (i.e. as long as you had internet access, you should always have been able to send and receive emails in France by that method).
Your iPad comes with a dedicated email app on it, simply called 'Mail'. There's no real reason why you shouldn't use it with any email service but it often makes most sense to use an app that's specifically designed to pair up with your own email service. i.e. if you're not already using it, you might want to consider installing GMX's own dedicated app:

(I use the Android equivalent of it on my own phone)
If you use GMX's own app you should find that everything (including the all-important 'SMTP' and 'authentication' settings) is already set up for you.
Otherwise, if you're using the default Mail app on your iPad, you'll need to go into its settings for your account. (See 'Check your settings' here: https:/ /suppor t.apple .com/en -gb/ht2 01419 ). You'll then need to check that the 'outgoing' ('SMTP') settings match those given here:

That should fix your problem but, if all else fails, simply delete your GMX account on your iPad and then create it again. (That will almost certainly work but you might find that hundreds, or even thousands, of old mails then get downloaded to your iPad!)

If so, one possible solution might be to bypass the Gmail website altogether and send/receive your emails through a dedicated email client (as you almost certainly would if you were working in an office anyway). The obvious one to try is the mighty Thunderbird:

Thanks Chris, it is via web mail. I did have Thunderbird on my last lappy but haven't used it on this one. Weird thing being I had strange email behaviour on my Hotmail account as well for a while then got locked out of it so switched to gmail which is now proving similarly weird. I'll try Thunderbird and make sure I don't *** anyone off in anything I'm writing just in case :)

That sounds like the very reason why I gave up on Hotmail many years ago! I had at least three accounts with them - which weren't used for any illegitimate purposes - which I got locked out of. Yahoo was just as bad. That's why I switched to Gawab, which unfortunately went bust, and then onto GMX. (I find the GMX web interface far more user-friendly than that of Gmail).
That sounds like the very reason why I gave up on Hotmail many years ago! I had at least three accounts with them - which weren't used for any illegitimate purposes - which I got locked out of. Yahoo was just as bad. That's why I switched to Gawab, which unfortunately went bust, and then onto GMX. (I find the GMX web interface far more user-friendly than that of Gmail).
