The uproar over the children in cages in the USA sprang from nowhere over the past few days, due to one journalist releasing a video of a crying child. How long has this practice been going on? Why did it suddenly emerge now?

The obvious fact that the laws and procedures will protect some of the "children" has not entered the minds of some Trump haters, or been allowed to enter the minds of others.
