yes I have had experience of this - the workers are very possessive
it depends on the facts
danny's heading is wrong - when does something become ownerless - virtually never in English Law
this I conclude is when you have taken something to the tip and then taken it back - they say hey hey hey! it is ours
and you say no it isnt

read the whole column
woofie mentions theft and so does someone else - normal day on AB then then, obviously ( profusion of complete and obvious non-sequiturs) - so someone comments no one has mentioned theft when there are multiple references not particularly hidden either.
and the one to read is the late really lamented Fred Puli who was a criminal QC and who died a few months later ( ca gallbladder ) . Even when someone says he is talking crip - he keeps his *** up and doesnt sulk
I am gonna have to read the case Freddie gives us. There are some good points for law students as an exercise in the whole piece - relation of cases to statute, the position of res delicta in English Law ( none virtually). the status of 'animus abandonandi' in English Law ( likewise - none ), and the continuing inability in the average ABer to filter sense from complete non-sense
and whilst I am at the subject of Fred Puli - a tidy little moddie pulled the thread where he discussed half way pleas ( no case to answer ) in a brilliant piece that went darn the tube. Galbraith pleas.
here is Freddy - let's hear it for Fred ! on a completely different subject

fred argued that galbraith pleas if their appeal had been listed in a different order would be called a Bindon pLeas. John Bindon 'actor', gangster, 'boyfriend' of Princess Margaret with a large hoo-hoo.
and here ( hear!) we have an echo of the argument from imdb!
( exaxct same last phrase used )
