Safety Glass - Interior Glass Doors

Hey there, I currently live in a council house and have just been told the glass panel doors i have are illegal as the glass isn't safety glass. The council have said they are going to replace them.
I don't want them to be replaced as my house is teeny weeny and it would restrict a lot of light, also, I like the doors as they seem much prettier than the ones that they will be getting replaced with.
Would applying the safety film over the glass get them up to scratch/code/law?

I have questioned my local council about this but as usual, they are very brief with answers.

P.S I live in Scotland if that makes a difference.

Simply replace the existing glass with toughened (if they are internal doors). Much cheaper and easier than replacing the whole door.

It they are external....... same thing, but double glazed units with one toughened leaf on the inside.

I think if you are a council tenant, in the UK at least, then your choice is limited, the same as if it was a private landlord. The landlord owns the property and its up to them what they do to comply with the law.

If the glass is a safety issue but you want to keep the light, why dont you replace the glass with plastic, I dont know what it is called but I have seen it in places like B&Q etc,
it is in sheets, patterned like glass, sometimes coloured and looks just like glass but wont smash.

Because the door as an integral part of the insulated house is unlikely to meet the thermal requirement of Building Regulations, Sparkle. So the local authority will want to replace the glass with safety glass, as others have said.

Ignore last comment - I see it's an internal door.

Still requires safety glass in it though.
