Funny how one's memory plays tricks on us. For obvious reasons, i have always recalled the Luneberg Heath fire i mentioned earlier in the thread as being during that hot, hot summer of '76. In fact it took place in '75! In the summer of '76, i was doing foot patrols in Belfast, so i couldn't have been fighting fires on heathland. My bad :-)

It was hotttt in September.

I remember that because we were at school and went on strike because the school had rubbish air conditioning.

So when the break bell went for the end of lunch we stayed outside.... in the blazing sun.
