Electric Garage Doors

Does anyone have experience of up and over electric garage doors Vs roller shutter garage doors in terms of:

Security,
Ease of use and
How reliable or prone to problems they are

Or if you have any experience of one of the above types your comments would be much appreciated.

I had double door of the up and over type... had no problems...other than remembering where the zapper thing was..can't remember the make ..soz....

I have no experience of electric up and over doors. The non electric up and over I had could be a nuisance if a car is parked on a drive too close to the door.

I chose the electric roller door six years ago.....I've had no problems at all and am more than happy with it.
I do sometimes work in the garage and can have the door open fully or part way which I like...

I also like the security of having no handle on it.....I did have someone try to access the garage by breaking the handle on the non electric up and over....

Mine are panelled up so somewhere between the two. When closed they look like a solid single panel but they are actually three horizontal panels. They re more secure than standard single panel up and overs but less commercial looking, less expensive but less secure than the roller shutter type, or at least were when we bought them around 10 years ago. I am very pleased with them. They work well and easily, have keyfob remotes and I have just bought more remotes cheaply enough on Ebay and programmed them myself. I honestly couldn't comment on security but the old up and overs were even less secure.

We had a Hormann fitted over 20 years ago after having the up-and-over door broken into and all my tools stolen. Because it's a worm-drive which operates it the door can't be opened without the motor turning unless you disconnect it from the drive system (pull a string inside, so easy if you have to). It feels to us to be much more secure than the manual type - we just turn-off the power to it when we go on holiday so it can't be opened from the outside.

I should have added that our door has been completely trouble-free in all the time we've had it.
For ease of use we think it's one of the best things we ever invested in. It can be opened/closed using a remote in the car/house or with a bell-push inside the garage. On rainy days you open the door before leaving the house, so no getting wet whilst fumbling around unlocking/opening it; similarly when coming home - open the door from the car and drive straight in then push the button and dash round to the house door.

I've got a roller shutter. We keep things, but not cars, in the garage so we don't use it much. It gets stuffed up with sand and is a pain to put right.
