Acne :(

Hi all, I've had moderate acne since the age of about 13, always on my back and chest. About a year and a half ago, at the age of 20 my doctor prescribed me the Dianette concraceptive pill, which worked wonders for my skin. However after a few months I started getting major side effects and had to come off. I'm now taking microgynon 30 but my acne has come back far worse than it was before, including on my face.
I don't want to take antibiotics so I was wondering if anyone knew of a different 'pill' that helps the skin other than Dianette? My confidence its falling fast and its seriously getting me down, it's constantly on my mind :(

Any advice would be a god send!

Dianette is usually prescribed for polycystic ovaries and is good for treating acne and excess hair growth.

If I were you I would consider either herbal medicine (see a professional) or some sort of cream/lotion or potion to put on your cream.

Try google - it will give you ideas.

Good luck.
Your doctor mightn't necessary prescribe you antibiotics & even if s/he does, you should only be on them for a short time. There are also topical treatments available on prescription, I have a prescription for Differin - an antibiotic gel I apply at night & if I need to, I use Oxy during the day.
I have a similar problem and was also put on Dianette which was good but I too had to come off it after dodgy side effects. I'm also on Microgynon but I also went down the antibiotic road which didn't help. I get breakouts on my face in the week leading up to my period and just use superdrug acne treatments. What I found good for my face (over a long period of time) was switching from soap based cleansers - I use a soap-free Superdrug face wash. I can really sympathise with you. I know it's hard but you really need a lot of patience while you try different things and see if they work. Good luck!
Hi anna,

I can totally relate to what your going through.

I was devastated when i got took off dianette after six years for oily bad skin. The truth of the matter is microgynon is one of the worst ones to take for problem skin!! It is mainly prescribed because it is the cheapest!!

anyhow after trying a few and having real bad outbreaks and i mean bad, blind spots under the skin but huge looked like boils I have settled on a pill called Yasmin, my skin is great and i get the odd few spots but nothing to get down about. so how about trying this one. Also can i just say if i do get the odd spot witch stick works a treat for me.

I know its hard but try not to get too down and see your doctor about trying yasmin, its one of the newer pills. i hope this helps. please give us an update xx
This is probably not a cure of your acne is severe, but Sudocrem cream should help the redness . And it's not a drug, use as often as you like. Also good for nappy rash ! Good luck.
Hiya,
I was also prescribed Dianette for bad acne in my teens. When my doctor told me I should come off it I switched to Marvelon pill. My acne didnt return and I couldnt tell that I had switched at all. Ask your doc about that one.
Now that I've come off the pill completely though my skin is really horrendous. The doctor has given me a treatment stick that I rub on every night. I'm not sure of the name as I dont have the box now, but it begind with a Z. It hasnt completey cleared it up but the spots do seem to be less red and angry.
I really sympathise with you. It really gets you down because you always feel that you never look your best. No matter what coverups!
I hope you find something that works for you.
