Pics within emails wont open
6 Answers
When I receive an email from a friend with JPEG's attached, I double click on the JPEG's. I see an icon 'Microsoft Photo Editor' on the taskbar which I assume is the application I am supposed to view the photos with. When I click on the icon nothing happens. When I view the Task Manager it shows the application is running with the name of the first photo in brackets. How can I change the program that is used to automatically view JPEGs within emails. Thanks.

On Properties there should be information about what the file opens with, and a button marked Change. This changes all such files. You could even change it to a crazy program like Word, if you really wanted to.
This is assuming you have Windows.

It's possible that Photo Editor is opening up off the screen where you can't see it. You could try either right-clicking the button on the task bar and choose Maximise or you could choose Move instead and try to bring it into the screen using the arrow keys.
If you only have one monitor, it's worth having a look in Display Properties in Control Panel on the Settings tab to make sure Windows only thinks you have one monitor.

NH - thanks, I've moved it to paint and it works a treat.
Ralph - I'm curious about your reply. I tried to move it but I cannot see it anywhere apart from the taskbar, and you can't 'move' it from there. I checked Display properties and my settings were showing the display as 1.(Multiple Monitors) on NVIDIA Geforce Go 6600. I changed it to 2. Default Monitor on NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 and then tried opening up the email pic but again Microsoft Photo Editor appeared on the taskbar but was unable to open, maximise or move it. If I am honest I would prefer to open up email pics with this application as I am then able to amend them if I wish. Any other ideas?

If you go to the display properties page and have another look. It might show 2 screens, if it does, click screen 1 and click on the Identify button (or something like that, I've only one screen here!). If a big 1 pops up on your monitor, we're on the right track. Click on screen 2 and make sure the box labelled "extend my windows desktop onto this display" or something like that is unchecked.
You can move it from the taskbar (or you should be able to), try it with your browser window. If you right-click it and choose Move, the pointer goes to the middle of the title bar at the top of the window, you can then move it around with the arrow keys. You probably won't be able to do this if the window is maximised or minimised. The other major flaw in this plan is that you don't know where the window is, so if it's off to the right and you move the program even further right, it'll be even more lost.
I used to know a method or had a program that would move programs off screen back on, but I don't know where it is now. I'll have a look and tell you if I find something.
