There is an intriguing map in this article on differing life expectancies throughout the country - not sure how seriously we are to take that, but there does appear to be some cause for concern in this respect.

That's not really a filling meal though. A chop and a very basic salad.
Crossed posts, Kval.
Seriously? A piece of meat a salad and a baked potato isn't a filling meal? That's the kind of meal we ate all the way through growing up, it's no less filling that sausage and chips imho and also only a specimen meal, I can make a six person stew for £2.00 add bread £3.00, that's really filling.
Ahhhh that makes sense, yeah my fat fingers got the better of me :) x
I suppose I'm comparing it to what I eat.
I eat quite a lot as in portion sizes bc I'm quite a greedy pig but it tends to be those kinds of things rather than chips or chocolate and I virtually never eat processed food unless I'm at someone else's house, I do eat biccies though and the odd bag of crisps x
The first thing any not so well of family should buy is a huge bag of onions... Seriously.

I will be making a meat n veg, + rice thing tonight, it will taste delicious, cost about 8 quid and feed 13.
It will also be healthy.
If I move 5 miles I will live 5 years longer according to that map.
Except it doesn't actually work like that, Eddie.
Education , education. Start with the children's nursery/school, some not all ,may realise healthy food choices is beneficial .
I think most people do know what healthy food is, and what's not. I imagine being in poverty and what goes with it, it must give a few moments relief when eating cheap, comfort food that you haven't got to prepare. I'm not saying it's right, just how I imagine it is.
You can buy a lot of healthy food for the cost of his smoking habit
Yes...but you have to remember it's an addiction.
Eating healthily, generally making sensible life choices and coming out healthy is sooooo hard. Smoking yourself to death is lovely and, after all, not your fault due to it being an addiction. I and the likes of me are exhausted by our effort and thoroughly ashamed of ourselves for not making use of benefits, the health service, etc. - it's our fault that we have no reason to. We have nobody and nothing to blame and/or moan at. Suggesting that education should be harnessed to change the situation is nothing other than anti-democratic treason, what about the will of the people ?
