Hoping to go to Sorrento, Amalfi Coast. Has anyone got any tips on local transport, eating out, tipping, indeed anything you think we might find useful. We are a couple in our early sixties. Many thanks for any information.
was there many years ago and I absolutely adored it - in fact would say it was my favourite place
since it was so long I wouldn't have many tips - we were in a brilliant hotel and I found if my memory serves me correctly that it was easy to get about. We did go over to Capri and I think you can go to Pompeii in a glass bottomed boat. Have a great time Walnut - wish I was going with you.
How lovely for you
Hope you have a wonderful holiday
Only know that I was born in the Sorrento nursing home in Stirchley Birmingham
Always wanted to go to the real Sorrento
There is a good hop on hop off bus which leaves from the station. And there are good trains to Pompeii Herculaneum and Paestrum - well worth a visit - but best to join a guided group. Amalfi is a lovely town and its a beautiful drive to get there . Have a lovely time.
I loved Sorrento too and did what jj did, over to Capri and to Pompeii. Also, we took the train up to Rome and spent a day there doing all the usual things. The ice cream in Sorrento was to die for I remember. I'd forgotten about the stray cats until Tilly mentioned them.
We wanton September and it was beautiful.
A bus ride along the Amalfi coast is amazing, but not for the faint hearted. The road clings to very steep terrain and swoops in and out. I loved it but 'er indoors was terrified.
