Leading on from Kval's thread about films and TV. What's the worst book that you've ever read?
I have two.

Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger - what an utter borefest.
We Need to Talk About Kevin - Lionel Shriver - dozens of pages full of verbal diarrhoea.

Your turn.....

I cannot abide Bill Bryson either.
Quinns Raiders: Blood Money - J.D. Bodine. I was in Malta at the time and too hot to do anything... I started so I finished it.
I like Bill Bryson - a very unassuming, quiet man. I knew him fairly vaguely/casually during the years when he lived at Malham (I was a coach at the nearest athletics track and his eldest son trained there so Bill often picked him up). A very genuine chap - when my youngest daughter and I drove around New England during her gap year, we called in and were made very welcome.

This is not to comment on his literary style - everyone has their own tastes- but as a man he is a very decent, likeable human being.
Theland, //Nims - What a relief!
I thought you might say the B word! //

I assumed this thread was about reading for leisure.... the B word is serious work. ;o)
Agree with jj, The Other Side of Midnight is a fabulous book.

I also agree with others We Need to Talk About Kevin was an absolutely rubbish book, but a good film.

I love Gregg Hurwitz's books, but his latest Hellbent is carp imo!
just coming into my mind two books that I had to read for exams and they were monstrous

Far from the Madding Crowd
Flowers in the Attic.

The Bible biggest fairy tale going.
Another book (sorry Rocky) know you are looking for the worst but this was a lovely book.

Katie Mulholland by Catherine Cookson - I have read most of her books but I've read this 3 times.

Goodness what exam did you read 'Flowers in the attic' for ?
Only having read snippets of both, I'd say 50 Shades of Grey and some book purportedly written by Katie Price. Painful, both of them.
I have to agree with 50 Shades. It was boring, not well written, repetitive and quite frankly a bit tame.

If a book doesnt grab me within a few pages, I don't perservere.
Ditto 50 Shades as EL James completely forgot the first rule of writing 'porn' and that is to engage the reader with emotional input, be it the hero/heroine or whoever.......
