I am one of 10 residents living in a new build. It is 6 months old, and has a lift which broke down a couple of weeks ago. An engineer came out and repaired it, assuring us all was well. The next person who used it was trapped and discovered the internal telephone was out of order. Luckily a neighbour eventually heard his shouts after 30 mins. It seems the telephone cannot be repaired until the next routing maintenance. Surely that cant be correct?? I will be too frightened to use it. Should this not be part of a health and safety protection?

Appalling and very frightening. We have a lift (sheltered accommodation) which has both an alarm button and a link to the help desk. Fortunately so far I have had no occasion to use either.
housing association..council..? seems wrong to me...
Lyn...I wouldn't accept that. A lift in which you can be trapped with no way of alerting others is dangerous.
If you get nowhere with those who should be fixing it I'd have a word with the local fire chief.....they are often the ones who have to rescue folk trapped in lifts.....I'm sure he/she'd prefer to prevent it....x
good idea ! ^^
Private block? Ask for a reduction in service charge, get your fellow residents to do the same, should get them to hurry.
Council or housing association, there are tenants officers for both, write to them and copy it to your local councillor, that usually works
I agree that a letter to your local councillor is usually very effective. A letter to your local paper works just as well. These people don't want negative publicity.
No, we dont have telephones in the lift in the hospital where I work but there is a panic button and when pressed it goes to an operator who can speak to you and send someone out, it is also audible outside and I/we can ring to get help.
Not nice - I have been stuck in a lift twice

I was stuck in a lift full of work colleagues on leaving work , one Christmas Eve
