Gosh it’s getting dark here already (west Yorkshire)
Is summer over?
Sad to see it go this year

I looked out over the garden and harvested fields in the glorious Yorkshire Wolds (advert :) ) on Saturday and said to Mr. J2 that suddenly the colours had become autumnal. Also some 'Replete' daffodil bulbs arrived for planting. (They are a double PINK daffy!) Suddenly we are getting to 'back-endish' which I usually associate with mid-Sept..
I had a huge argument with youngest daughter the other year because I said that my birthday (tomorrow and I have faith in Murraymints)was in Autumn. She insisted it was in Summer and I ended-up having to explain about Lammas etc., etc..
Mr. J2 met local sheep farmer (60 yrs-old) running down a lane yesterday. The explanation was that 'it's getting dark earlier and I have to get round all the fields'.
So Yep, it's Autumn, roll on harvesting the sloes in the hedgerows (I know where they are) to make some 'fast' gin!

There is something almost spiritual in the turn of the seasons. That tipping point between one state and the next. When the odd changed leaf becomes a blaze of colour after that first cold night, when the cool is replaced by see your breath cold. When buds swell on trees and the daffodils shine like sunshine , and when you smell the first sweet peas and honeysuckle on a summer evening.
