tried and tried last night to no avail. just there now it is going - however it is on a few minutes but find it still slow - shall I gave it more time. thanks

Am just getting round to doing the speed test - it came up as 3.8Mb/s. Then it said "your speed is good".
Anyway since replacing the new Hub and I never touch any wires per se as I find things sensitive so never checked wiring. I have the old fashioned computer.
over the years I have had 3 computers put in by professionals - guess what they done - the just unplugged the old computers and inserted the wires of the new ones leaving me with a multitude of wires unneeded and unnecessary. I only found this out with trying to organise the new hub. Now did you ever? And do you think my speed is good also.

G'morning Jenny........I wouldn't regard your present speed as good, although your test has reported so.
Hopefully the Hub will settle down and speeds will improve, but it could take a few days to do so.
Don't expect to get high speeds like Baldrick has because he is not on standard broadband. I feel certain he has something like BT Infinity, which is more expensive.
Keep an eye on speeds and keep us updated. For an easy to use and accurate tester I suggest you try the following :-

Hi Jenny.....Unless you are playing games on the Net and downloading films and such like, the speeds you are getting could be deemed as passable for general use. However, i would consider a download speed of less than 5.0 as a poor service from BT.
Is your Hub wired to your computer or are you on a wireless connection. ? Also is it plugged into the main telephone socket or an extension.?

G,morning Jenny.........The speeds you are getting should be sufficient for your needs. They should be ok for Answerbank and all Social Media sites, Emailing, general browsing on the Net, and viewing on-line Videos.
Keep checking the speeds because there is still a chance that they will improve further. However, when shutting down your Computer it is recommended by BT that you Do Not switch off the Hub. Keep it on at all times, otherwise the Telephone Exchange will automatically lower the speeds, in a belief that the lines to your property are unable to handle the speeds you are getting.

thanks Hans - I have spent an hour "chatting" with BT advisors hoping now I could get a reduction in my monthly payments - one told me I never had a contract so that is why I was never offered discounted packages ?

G'afternoon Jenny......I am delighted that you have been able to reduce your monthly payment by £20. per month. The news of your success inspired me to telephone BT this afternoon to enquire if I could be offered a better deal than I have at present.( £52.99 ....Standard Broadband, Line Rental & Unlimited Anytime Telephone Calls)
The result is that I have opted for an 18month Contract to get a minimum of 36 Mbps download (at present my Standard Broadband averages approx. 12.25Mbps) for a total monthly cost of £33.49
(£23.99 for line rental and broadband, plus £9.99 for unlimited anytime calls)
Admitedly, after 18 months the cost for Broadband will double, but even then it will only be about £7 more than I am currently paying per month. A saving of approx. £342 during the next 18months should be enough to keep me going for a further period of time.
A sincere thanks Jenny for making me sit-up and think.
