Restore Proxy Settings?
2 Answers
I am with NTL Broadband, quite often internet browsing is very slow, when I use NTL's Boadband Medic it often says that the proxy settings need restoring, you then click on a link that carries out this task. How do I do this manually. Not being too computer literate, is this something that I should mess around with or not?
Many Thanks in advance.

If you are using IE, select Tools then Internet Options then Connections. At the bottom is a section called LAN settings. Press the button.
In the LAN settings window, in the lower half, DESELECT the option which says Use a Proxy Server.
Shut down IE and open it up again. Should now NOT be using proxy settings.
(I would make a note of all the settings in these windows before changing anything just in case you make a mistake).

It is possible to specify a proxy with NTL, though not necessary. Normally you will automatically get your local one, but if you are having problems it is possible to use any of their proxies. I suspect that BB Medic is either setting you up to temporarily use a random or low traffic proxy.
