It's a red cross in the form of an X (a saltire) on a white background. On the union jack it is next to the cross of St Andrew, which is a white saltire on a blue background. The third component of the flag is the cross of St George, which is red on a white background.

Why has Wales never been represented in the flag
rundmg -- back then, Wales was regarded as part of England (though probably not in Wales!), so it was not acknowleged a separate identity on the Union Jack.
