people telling you they have millions of pounds but need to trust you and put it in your account ? Do you know anyone who as replied ?
Or have you had people send you strange requests ?
I had an emai from a lad in Gambia who wanted me to find him a football team he could come and play in over here .

yes got one just this weekend - apparantly I've been left some money by some long lost relative (can't remember where they died but it was in some African country if I remember rightly.) The nice people who informed me only wanted to know my bank details so they could forward my inheritance straight into my bank account. Wasn't that nice and thoughtful of them??? Doll xx

There was an interesting show at the Edinburgh Fringe last year about a comedian who kept up an e-mail conversation with one of these scams, with hilarious results, revealing the whole scam for what it was. I don't think any of them are really genuine. If they need help, surely they can turn to the UN or some similar organisation, not some random person whose e-mail address they've stumbled across.

Have had three e-mails from UK Lotto telling us we'd won 600,000sterling through numbers 'bought' in our name because of using Microsoft or something equally convoluted -
they wanted all sorts of information so I checked out the actual website - needless to say, a complete hoax [more's the pity, could've used it !!!]

There is a fabulous website where these american actually preted that they are falling for the sacm, play along with it, drag it out and in the end ask the african bloke to send a photo of himself. It is done brilliantly and in the end when the photo arrives (usually the request is to send a photo next to a banner saying ' I am a plonker or something' (so it cannot be just any photo) and they then put the whole exchange on the website. anyone know a link.

Im surprised there is so much poverty in Africa, aparently the place is awash with money, however, I wouldnt dare get on an airplane over there as they tend to fall out of the sky with alarming regularity killing all those diplomats/millionaires/opposition party leaders.

Many people have made a sport of winding up these scammers. There are numerous sites where the results of the wind-ups are published. loosehead mentions just one of them.
The scam is known as 419 fraud after the section of the Nigerian penal code that deals with advance fee fraud.
Those that make a sport of getting their own back on the scammers are known as scambaiters.
The best known site for scambaiters is http://www.419eater.com/ which has over 20,000 members. If you follow the link you will be able to see some outstanding examples of scambaiters at work successfully making fools of the scammers.
The site has a Hall of Shame and a Trophy Room which make hilarious viewing. There are also links to many other sites that deal with published scam baits.

Warning. Reading the results of scambaiters work becomes addictive.

i must admit i usually respond and wind them up a bit. after about 3 emails i just start laughing at them.

i heard of one guy who said he needed some cash from them to get the money they wanted - and they sent it! only bout �100, but still....
