For the first time I've been offered the above. I know of some people who swear by it, others say it makes them ill.

We should be aware that proper influenza is not like " a bad cold " !!!
Quite so, anne - I had the full flu monty in 2009 and it flattened me for weeks - in the summer too :(
I have a jab every year with no problems (I can't afford time off work)

However 'er indoors had a jab one time, and she is one of the minority who suffer a reaction, and says it was as bad as flu.
//My advice...if you are over 65, suffer from heart problems, lung problems, diabetes then have the jab. //

yup have the jab - yes it modifies flu
and I sort of have all of the above ( + immunosuppression )
As an NHS worker I have it every autumn, have done for the last 5 years with no ill/after effects whatsoever.

I’ve had ‘proper’ flu once in my life, when I was a fit young man in the Army. One can see how the effects of a particularly virulent strain would affect a person somewhat older so I don’t hesitate every year.

Thankyou all for your replies. Although I'm as fit as a butchers dog, I think I'm going to have the jab.
Judging by the replies it seems most of you are in favour.
you're talking about woman flu, though, anneasquith. The other is much, much worse.
The flu jab for men flu consists of using a whopping big needle in order for men to get the right dosage to combat man flu.
I have it, never had any problems :) x
Man flu..?...........neither am I qualified or indeed have the time to discuss the mystery that is man flu. Not to be confused with male menopause. Or indeed " mid life crisis" . ;-(

I've had the misfortune of catching gastric man flu. The house where I lived had a downstairs loo. I got caught short at 4 in the morning. Raced downstairs, slipped on the third step from the bottom, went head over heels.... You can guess the rest :-(
I had the flu jab once in 2001 and got more ill than I have ever been, with the flu. Haven't had it since then and haven't had anything anywhere near as bad. I believe they have a different formula now than 17 years ago, so can't comment on how it might affect me now.
My husband and I have it every year, We have never had any problems. Our doctors and the local chemist both do it for free.
If you've ever had flu you'll know that a couple of days feeling a bit off and a sore arm are worth it.
My OH is fine with them and has been for yrs, but I won't have them as I have lots of probs as in auto immune things so will not take the chance. I can only guess that it's ones choice and if tempted and believe it will be ok, then go for it!
@Kva is that because you're diabetic? Only I thought it was more the elderly but maybe I'm wrong xx
I am in my 40's, I have the Jab every year because of my Job, NHS.
Thanks woofgang. I have had real debilitating flu and I caught becUse at the timei worked with children in school....sigh. However, knowing just how sensitive my body is (curse it) I am not prepared to take the chance.

Oh to be in the 'normal' spectrum and to have what others can put up with....life gets teejus dunnit...sigh.
