Finger nails chipping
3 Answers
Hey i wonder if anyone can help me, basically lately my nails have been chipping and i dont mean right off i mean a thin layer of nail keeps chipping off the top almost like peeling off. And i was wondering what vitamins i am lacking for this to happen? I mean i wear nail varnish practically all the time which probably contributes to this but i have been told its mainly due to lacking vitamins. Cheers for reading :)

Your nail varnish or remover could be damaging your nails that might be worth while not wearing any for a wee while and you can try the following. At any opportunity during the day rub a little vaseline directly onto the nails or alternatively if you have a chance sit a bowl with a small amount of olive oil in another bowl that has hot water in it (to gently warm the oil). Then sit with your nails in it for a short time - rub in a bit and then wash hands. You could go for a treatment manicure also that could set you of in the right direction but think the other ideas cost less and would def be effective given a short time. If you have to wear polish go for a moisturising brand and ensure you use a moisturising remover. hope this helps.
I had the same problem when I wore varnish constantly. As soon as I gave my nails a rest from it they started to grow healthily again and haven't split or peeled since. It's apparently caused by the hardeners they use to make the varnishes tougher and shiny. If you don't want to give up nail varnish, make sure you use a nail primer before applying your base coat. Perfectil's also worth a try (vitamins for hair, nails and skin).
