Considered by many to be a bit taboo, personally i never have and wouldn't , but that because of the generation i belong to.
However i have heard younger people do it, and was a bit uncomfortable about it if i am honest.

My mother never allowed anyone to call her by her first name, she hated it! (Ivy). I called her 'Mum' when I was young and usually something like 'Mrs Woman' when I was somewhat older. She hated that too, which is exactly why I did it ;-) I always called my father by his first name (Les) from when I was around 12. That's somewhat better than he'd called me as a young...

I call my Mum and Dad, Mum and Dad, unless we're anywhere for business purposes then I used their first names generally, but my mother calls her mother by her first name, no idea why really, they just do and both are close and neither seems to find it weird or disrespectful or have an issue with it.
just mum and dad, though I can't see what respectful has to do with it. It's just because mamamama and dadadada are the first sounds we make, it's nothing holy. If jno jnr should want to call us by our first names, he's welcome.
Slightly different question: how does your partner refer to you when speaking to the kids? Is it "Dad says it's going to rain" or "Pete says it's going to rain"? In other words, do you use your name for your husband (or wife), or your kids' name for them?

The adult sons of my best friend have called me (and my late husband) by our first names ever since they could talk and the oldest is now 30. His toddler daughter also calls me by my first name. They certainly aren't (and never have been) disrespectful. I don't think its anything to do with respect or disrespect.
