Has anyone ever tried swapping their car at a car dealer without money changing hands? If you see a car you like that is equivalent in value to the agreed trade in value of your own, would a dealer consider doing this if you could come to an agreement on price or is it not worth the paperwork from their point of view?

I haven't tried it but in theory it could be easier for them (no cash/bank payments to sort out). They will make a profit on both vehicles just as if cash had been transferred. The only problem may be that their systems aren't set up for it and require a payment to them to be shown against one vehicle and one back to you to go on the record for your trade in vehicle
surely those all part exchanges work on the basis that you pay only teh balance, so in this case the balance would be zero or close to zero. You may find their systems need some form of net payment though- maybe a nominal small value
depends on what the deal is - and the car !

I can see that a swoppsie could be a good deal for both parties

Having a bad sight day
I fort initially- what he want to swap a cat for a car for den ?
what kinda shop is dat den? [foo!]
sorry
FF yeah no FF
book keeping entries - and the car would have to be on the books too.
But it would have a value - the trade in value

the balance figure would be zero rather than the more normal trade in figure ... and you should be able to cost a trade in transaction - it would nt be much
...you say "equivalent in value", but they're not. Their car is selling at "retail" and you will be getting "trade value"...so money will be made on their selling both cars.
I assume gingebee that the seller is selling at £X and the agreed trade in value of the other is also £X. But it depends on whether it's a guidance trade in figure or they have fully inspected it
Since they buy at a lower price than they sell, they'd be getting a better quality car, so it has to be better for them than you going elsewhere. Worth suggesting. Probably depends on the dealer's POV. How good are your negotiating skills ?
f-f....as the OP has said "agreed trade-in value", I'd assumed that the dealer had seen/inspected the car to make a definite "agreed" valuation.
I think we are agreed that it is a goer
depending on what the cars involved are
O I thought this was a generic
can you do a swoppsie ?

yeah so long as the deal is good for both sides....
probably gingebee- although I don't think it's a factor here as i'm sure dave knows the retailer is making a profit somewhere along the line. I think it is just a generic "could it be done if the amounts were equal"

oh I must tell you: from here I went onto Eye OPs and the clerk said - "oh hello dear - you OK den?" - and I said" well yeah apart from the fact I cant see" - and she said yeah well you are at an Eye Hospital and then I remember you from last time ..... (9 m ago)
