Can someone recommend a free java link as I have downloaded Open Office and it's telling me I need java.

(NB: Assuming that you're using a Windows machine, make sure that you install a 32-bit version of JRE, even if you've got a 64-bit version of Windows on your machine).

Like Tony, I've never had any problems running OpenOffice on a Windows machine. The 'Windows Online' link here looks like it might be the one you need though:

Seems you only need Java for some of the advanced function.

There has been a lot of security issues around Java in the last few years and I would UNINSTALL it now.
Unless you plan to use some of the advanced function in Open Office you dont need Java.
