One of the best of the year so far for me. Some wonderful clues, some easy clues and an endgame that kept on giving.

This was indeed a first-class puzzle. I can't begin to imagine how one would set about constructing something like this. I think this is Cagey's debut; if so, it's a very auspicious one.
A wonderful puzzle. Enough accessible clues to sort out the carte blanche and a superb ending. Led astray a little by finding that Wiki led to an alternative that could have fulfilled the second instruction if present. A great feat of construction nevertheless. Thanks Cagey
Yes, this was brilliant - it took me a good night's sleep and a cup of tea to sort out the endgame though! Very well done Cagey
A very impressive debut, if indeed it is one. Some wonderful clues and a nice endgame. Certainly a feat of construction. Thanks Cagey.
An excellent puzzle, indeed. I agree with Alekhine that there were some wonderful clues. I found the endgame pretty straightforward, thanks to the clarity of the instructions.

This may be Cagey's first Listener, but I think he has set puzzles elsewhere.
Curious what 12barblues means by his "alternative", but obviously it'll be better to await publication of the solution to find out what was meant.

Amazingly I managed to complete this, which suggests that the clues where not quite as formidable as others from recent years, but that is by no means a criticism. There were a few super clues in the set -- 10dn being my pick -- and generally some great care must have gone into the polished surface readings.

For the endgame I think I basically got it accidentally correct, only looking in the right place by chance, but once I'd realised this it made the endgame and the construction much easier to appreciate!

As it happens I know Cagey in person -- one of only two Listener setters I can make that claim about, the other being Chalicea -- so I've also seen some of his earlier work. Safe to say that this is better by far.
A very enjoyable piece, and no quibbles from me. A regular benefit from Listeners is being drawn to investigate the background. I have been particularly taken by the lady in question, and aghast at her position in her family. A lot is explained
Great puzzle. I echo everything above, especially the clues. 10d in particular made me smile (amongst many others).
Cleverly constructed but we are not fans of this type of endgame.
