Got my sons girlfriend staying with me at the mo.
My sons just told me that his GF has had a really heavy period for the last 9 days. She's feeling really lethargic/tired.
1) Are there any effective suppliments that she could take to help?
2) Is this anything to see the GP about? (this isn't usual for her)

Shes 26 and has had numerous health problems including treatment for leukemia when she was 14 and more recently a blood clot on the lung.
TIA for any help/advice

I'm glad she's going to see health professionals. I had Hellish period problems and - rather belatedly as it happened- I was found to have had a largeish fibroid.

Thanks Mamy, I will.
Hope you got it all sorted Jourdain? (don't know how fibroids are treated, TBH not exactly sure what a fibroid is either)
Nailit how did your son's girlfriend get on at the hospital? Hope she is OK.

Thanks for asking Ladybirder.
She was given some meds to help ease the (excessive) bleeding (don't know what type of meds). It seems (as others have hinted at) that it was all due to changing from a contraceptive implant to a coil and the fact that she was on blood thinners as well.
Thanks again for asking.
How are you, Nailit? In good form, I hope.
Thanks for the update, glad she's getting help.
Oh good, glad you saw my post.

You know me Tills, always in good form ;-)

Thank you Mamy. My son and his GF were up A&E last night for over 6 hours though :-(
Question Author
Just logged on Ladybirder, first post I saw :-)
I hope she gets on the right track now that she's having the correct treatment. Six hours in A&E is not good!

Thanks Tills,

Never is, but its about the normal waiting time her in Stoke at the mo.
Review with admission possibly. For review in A and E and possibly admission for treatment or at least until a specialist team can see her on Monday. I expect they will want to correct her clotting and get what they call a differential blood count which is more detailed and might give them an idea if her leukaemia is doing anything unusual. If it looks very abnormal ( unlikely) they might want to take some bone marrow. But chances are it's just going to be a case of tweaking her blood thinners and slowing the blood loss a bit.
She must be feeling awful. Poor thing. I am glad that your son is supporting her in all this. Well done to him.
They do seem to be committed to each other by what you've told us Nailit. Would you say that is the case?
