Hi. Is it OK to top up the oil in a 2010 Ford Ka 1.2 with 5/30 fully synthetic ? I only ask as my friend's car is really short on oil - the oil light came on and when I checked, it doesn't even register on the dipstick !! I have some fully synthetic in my garage which he could have. I think it will be OK but have looked online and get a lot of conflicting information. TIA
Yes because semi-synthetic motor oil is a blended mixture generally 70% regular motor oil mixed with 30% full-synthetic oil therefore by adding or blending more full-synthetic oil into the mixture merely increases the percentage amount of full-synthetic oil within a pre-blended semi-synthetic brand....
Unless you're friend is planning on driving in the Sahara Desert (where 5W-40 oil might actually have some point to the higher temperature rating), 5W-30 will be absolutely fine.
It says semi synthetic on most of the specs 5/30 grade is not really the issue - just needed to know if fully synth will be ok as it's all I've got. will advise him to get some semi-synth rather than damage the engine
