Maxie had been lethargic about Saturday and was passing diarrhoea. So I just kept a wee eye on him. However on the Sunday the diarrhoea got serious and the straw that broke the camel's back was - it was no longer diarrhoea but big clots of blood coming from his wee back package and when I looked around the back yard all blood and his bed (a duvet was covered).

Boy I panicked. (Sunday) - got him to an Emergency Vet quite a good distance away on Sun afternoon. Vet - said he had a bug and gave him medication.

I can get the tablets (crushed) into him but this bloody awful syphon of stuff that looks that gooey tar - could not get that near him.

He is a little bit better but still sorta not right. I will try him on the tablets and if he's no better I'll go to my local vet. These vets do stick the arm in.

That gooey stuff is Kaolin, JJ. Spread some onto a piece of ham/beef whatever and give it to him that way. It does work, if and, when you can get it into them.

Squirting the stuff into their mouths is impossible. Good luck.

ok - thanks Tilly - will put onto his little chicken. That'll be a good idea.
I use wafer thin ham. Spread it all over the ham, roll it up into a sausage and give it to Tilly from my hand. Don't just spread it over the outside of the chicken. You need to be a bit crafty.
jennyjoan oh how awful, I do hope Maxie is feeling better soon.

Jenny. The kaolin is used to 'bung him back up' -stop the loose poo. The tablets are the most important thing as they will be medicating the condition. I would phone your normal vet and ask if there is any alternative to Kaolin to stop his diarrhea. Yes vet bills are a shock -I
I've just had one for £700 :-/

he is doing very well now - have been able to get the tablets into him as in crushed. Also some kaolin mixed in with the chicken. He's brilliant now.

Don't know what the removed posts were about but I guess they are about my remarking about the bills. Rock - don't be so bloody jumpy. Go to the doctors yourself and get a valium to calm yourself down.
