Help. Raging Toothache.

Out of nowhere a raging toothache has just developed.
Took 2 aspirin about 20 minutes ago, but doesn’t seem to be abating.
I understand I can take 1-2 every four hours, but can I take paracetamol on top of that? And how often? I won’t be able to see see a dentist till 9.00am tomorrow. Not sure I’ll last that long.

If you have it and if it's okay for you to take normally you can take Paracetamol, Ibuprofen Lyseine and codeine all together. My Mum occasionally has to for horrific migraines and the pharmacist told he she could under exceptional circumstances. Careful though that you don't have a mixed tablet of paracetamol and codeine because obviously then you couldn't take separate paracetamol. x

Have taken two paracetamol after the two aspirin - couldn’t stand the pain.
If it gets any worse I might take a taxi to the local A&E and see if they will pull it out.
Unfortunately no clove oil. If I survive the night, I’ll get some for the future.

Got any whiskey in the house, take a sip and swill and let it lay on the painful tooth and it will numb it.

Don't contact your GP, as they won't be able to offer emergency or out-of-hours dental care.

If you're in pain while waiting to see a dentist, take painkillers. NHS 111 can also offer other self care advice.

Tonyav beat me to it. Any 40% alcohol will do. Keep it in your mouth for a minute or two, spit it out into a glass, and repeat when needed. It does work. It's also OK if you swallow the odd gulp:)

I'm glad you don't have any clove oil. From my experience, applying it hurts so much that when the shock from that wears off your current pain seems almost bearable in comparison.

I found co-codomal and ibuprofen together was helpful, also holding something either quite hot or very cold to my jaw gave a bit of relief.

If you don't take painkillers on a regualar basis I'd dose up with whatever is to hand.

From my experience it sounds like an infection/abscess,for which the cure is antibiotics. Dentists will not draw a tooth if it is infected.

Thanks all.
Still keeping me awake, but I found a big blob of Sensodyne toothpaste rubbed directly on the tooth helps a lot.
Will get a quart of whiskey for future problems.

Biting on a clove will help a lot.
