Traveling back from Scotland early Sunday morning 07;30. Carriageway upgrade M6 J16-19. 50mph average speed area. Why do others think normal lane rules don’t apply. 3 cars each keeping pace side by side . 1 in slow, 1 in middle, 1 in outside. All doing less then 50. Move over cretins.

Do you think they will be reading this?
I hate it when people take up 3 lanes in a 50 zone.. like being 1 car behind is so much worse than riding along next to someone taking up all the room!

I rate the issue is some people use their speed for speed (usually at 50 a few mph off, about 3/4 i'd say) some people use their cars electronic speed where instead of a speedometer it's a number on the dash and some use their satnavs.. All would be slightly different speeds but all would read 50.. It's an annoying situation, my recommendation? Sit with your horn on.. they're there for a reason! I personally think we need to take the Italian and the Americans advice when it comes to horns, if you wanna press it, then hold it for 30 seconds no less.
Maybe they knew there was potential for ice, maybe they knew that while MW works are in place the designation of lane purpose and speed is often waived (as happens a lot on M25). Maybe you should be thankful you got back safely to have a rant.
If there's a 50mph speed restriction with "average speed" cameras, it's logical that no-one should be going over 50 so I see no problem with all 3 lanes going along in parallel - and safety.
They shouldn't trundle along blocking all three lanes though. What if an ambulance needed to get past? It would take a little while for the parallel travellers to sort themselves out safely and get out of the way.
regardless of the maybes you're suppose to drive in the left hand lane unless overtaking. Riding at the same speed would imply a lack of overtake

As anyone who uses the M25 will know, when a variable speed limit is in force, it is accompanied by the instruction "Avoid changing lanes". Sadly there are too many idiots who either can't read or think it doesn't apply to them.
Did you miss the "Keep In Lane" sign?
Watch out, diddly, I called him a ******* and a *****, and got three answers removed in short order. Not a record, but it did amuse me...

Particularly as one of the insults I used was the same as the final word in his original 'question', i.e. 'c......ns.'

237SJ - the wording on the overhead gantry varies but it always means the same thing i.e. stay in the lane you're already in and don't try to weave in and out in the hope of getting a few yards further down the road faster than the person you're sitting behind.
