I’ve just taken delivery of my new 4’ double bed. Put it all together, fine. However, when I came to fit the headboard I’d bought for a small double, the fixing holes are too far apart.

How do you tell what the fixing dimensions are, from the description on the site that I’m buying it from?

The distance between the fixing holes on my bed are 3’. I can take the headboard back and change it but don’t want to go through the whole rigmarole again. Thanks.

I’d use photos - email/send them the right/wrong holes, plus of course words telling them what it’s about - might save a trip.
The probldm doesn't lie with the bed supplier .. the issue is with the aftermarket headboard that you supplied yourself. ( that's if I understand the question).
Have done a few of these .. just measure the distance between the centres of the fixing points on the bed.
Then mark the same centres on the headboard.
Remove the stays/legs from the headboard and refix them in the correct location using the new markings.

Hmm. I could take a photo back to my local Argos store where I bought the headboard from but they are going to be as much in the dark as I am, without getting various boards out of their packaging and, looking.

There only seems to be struts to fix it on, at those points on the headboard, alva.
The struts need to be moved .. otherwise you will need to get a head board with 36," centres. Or even 90cm.
