It is to hunt down and contain voices that are against it from within. All dressed up with pretty ribbons and false tenets to fool the sheeple until it is too late. Millions of able bodied, bored, young men from non Western civilisations are now in place to form the phalanx of a force that is willing and eager to fire on and terrorize the local populations into submission. Need training and legally arming first of course. The new model army of the EUSSR.
Retrocop, I was going to mention that situation about the cemeteries. Apparently DeGaulle was thumping the table and demanding that all American troops should leave French soil within 24 hours, whereupon Dean Rusk said "Does that include all those in the cemeteries?"
It WAS the Americans wot wunnit. No doubt. From the Western approach anyway. It was the Russians from the East. The British were there, but the Yanks won the war.

Despite the rather misleading sentence about threats “even from the US”, what Macron is referring to is threats to Europe from other countries (not the US directly) as a result of US policy. Whatever you think of the idea of a Europe army, it’s not hard to see how current US policy might have thrown up some potential future dangers to Europe. So talk of “ingratitude” is missing the point.
