Finding Peace Of Mind

This question is prompted by a discussion on another thread. It’s said that good physical health is the most important thing in life but in my opinion peace of mind is far more valuable. From the previous discussion, God doesn’t appear to be the answer so the question is, how do people accept that life does what it does and people are what they are without allowing the negativity that all of that can bring to dominate their thoughts, thereby destroying their peace of mind?

If– Rudyard Kipling.. If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor...

Accepting pain is part of it , when pain is caused by something so terrible its not a case of not feeling it it is accepting it is right and proper and part of your life. It's not allowing a sense of anger and bitterness to colour sadness. I grieve every day for Dave, but it is sadness, I could say it is cruel and unfair but that wouldn't change things. That's the difference.
This is one person's answer.
The Peace of Wild Things.
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Yes, that's a given too ... but it's easier said than done. From the OP:
//how do people accept that life does what it does and people are what they are without allowing the negativity that all of that can bring to dominate their thoughts//
... the operative word being 'how?' It's those blasted niggles!

Naomi, you are one of life's campaigners, maybe you still want to change the world. One key thing though is to sit down and think where your energy and intelligence can do the most good. You are wasting it debating with the converted on here. For you I suspect peace of mind will come from focus . The accepting the other stuff will happen when you are ready for it. Niggles are just that, either deal with them there and then or discard them. If you keep putting them in lifes handbag eventually you will no longer be able to carry it.

I’ve been telling her that for years, rowan.
I’ve invited her to run away with me a few times to a little cottage by the sea, where we can ‘debate’ the worlds wrongs and have massive arguments and then enjoy the making up. I think she was quite tempted. ;-)
