// Speaking to the BBC this week, her lawyer said she would need to move to a Western country for her own safety. Several countries have offered her asylum.//

…but ….

Pakistan's authorities have struck a deal with a hard-line Islamist party to end the protest over her acquittal ….

As part of the deal, Asia Bibi will be barred from leaving the country, though it is unclear for how long.

The protesters will also be able to file an appeal to the Supreme Court over its decision to release her.

She was convicted in 2010 of insulting the Prophet Muhammad, but was acquitted earlier this week.

Pakistani Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry defended the agreement against allegations the government was capitulating to extremists://

Capitulation to extremists? Clearly. What now for Asia Bibi?

Khandro. Glad you know of Buddhism (“ the third precept of the Noble Eightfold Path is 'Right speech', part of which is defined as, "Do not slander others or speak in a way that causes disharmony or enmity".)”

Somewhat harsh interpretation of ‘Right Speech’, but close.

But nowhere in the 4 noble truths nor the 8-fold path are we asked to turn our back on injustice or stupidity. Arguably, ‘Right Action’ encourages us to involve ourselves in the world, not to ignore it, or worse still, ‘go with the flow’ simply because it is easier.
^^ Yes, I agree.
Boris Johnson's call for ther UK to give asylum to Bibi discussed earlier on Sky News ("Press Preview").

Much to quarrel with over the Boris proposal, the most obvious being that Bibi wouldn't live longer than a month in today's Britain unless she had twice as much spent on protecting her safety as is being spent on Anjem Choudary's.

But not the reason for this post. Will the real reason step forward, please? Yes: both the female presenter and the TLS editor made no reference to the suffering of a poor woman and her family for nearly a decade. Presenter: "Shortly - before we go - should Boris Johnson be shouting off about this woman..?". TLS editor: "Well, clearly this woman has been convicted under mediaeval laws...".

There's an article about another woman, Michelle Obama, to be discussed after the break. Will she be a "this woman", or will the tone revert to the slavering homage these people pay to all things Obama?

Bednobs, //I don't understand how we are capitulating to Islam by either offering her or not offering her asylum?//

We’re capitulating to Islam because the British government is concerned there may be [from an earlier report] "unrest among certain sections of the community" In other words they’re afraid that Pakistani nutters here will do what Pakistani nutters in Pakistani have done and go on the rampage screaming for her blood.

^Wrong thread. Sorry.
// Bednobs, //I don't understand how we are capitulating to Islam by either offering her or not offering her asylum?//

blimey neither do I ! If you do something (A) becuase of X or ~X - most people would accept that A and X have no connection at all.

Are the Chinese capitulating to Trumps policies by paying the swingeing taxes he has imposed - er no I dont think so at all.
