Many thanks for the replies, folks. I suppose I must be wrong but "pils" seems unfair to me - a trade name surely has no place in a cryptic crossword. Same point probably applies to hastings - more general knowledge than cryptic, I should have thought. Perhaps it`s time I gave up fooling about with crosswords.
