KC`s broadband service under the Karoo banner use different values for the VPI and VCI protocols and different Encapsulation and Modulation settings compared to BT.
I have used D-Link and Toshiba modem routers here with only limited success.
I finally bit the bullet and paid the extra price for a Netgear DG834GT which is performing faultlessly.
When initially setting up, it interrogates the line and actually sets itself up to the required settings. All you need to is provide your log-in details and set up the security elements which is also very easy to do.
I will not say anything against the Linksys, D-Link etc. but KC`s settings and service are the acid test for this type of equipment and I cannot praise the Netgear too highly.

doddsredoubt: basically, if you want wireless internet, then you'll need a device to send the internet signal from your phone line, and you'll need a device to receive the signals. the box that sends the signal is the wireless router (make sure you get the right sort -- just a router, or one with an ADSL modem).
you also need something to receive the signals... some laptops (many, now) come with this receiver built-in. older laptops and especially desktop PCs don't have this, so you need to buy a receiver that just plugs into the back and lets the laptop or PC get the wireless internet signal. this is the 'dongle' wideboy talks about.
