Sinusitus
10 Answers
I have had, or rather am having a rough bout of sinusitus. It's been about 2 weeks now and I wonder if I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. My mucus ( tons of it ) is now a gooey English Mustard colour. I am washing my nose out a couple of times a day and taking paracetamol when I feel I need it. How does one know if it is bacterial or viral ? I am going to the GP tomorrow, but he is heavy handed with antibiotics which I don't want to take if not necessary. Even if it was bacterial, would it clear up eventually doing what I am doing, without antibiotics ?

You don't know whether it s vial or bacterial unless you take a specimen and grow the organism. But does it matter?....I don't think it does.
If you feel ill, have a temperature, then you need antibiotics, but if you feel otherwise well, then you don't.
Nasal decongestants are the answer, in any form, sprays or tablets and yes, you are seeing light at the end of the tunnel, probably at the end of this week.......another week.

I wonder what sqad thinks of Flixonase nasal spray?
It's sold as a sinus-clearing spray, and an ENT consultant I knew described it as 'industrial' (in its strength). I have used it for years, in my case to keep my tinnitus in check - I find that the clearer my sinuses, the lower the tinnitus noise.
Would it help in Samurai's case, sqad?

Excellent spray, but more appropriate in allergic sinusitis and vasomotor rhinitis ( sinusitis of unknown ) cause. In the case of Samuraisan it seems to be of bacterial or to a less extent viral cause and hence steroid sprays would tend to be less effective.

Just to keep you updated....I am feeling much better today, sod's law as I saw the doc this morning, (got a new one designated , she's about 15 ), and she prescribed me a nasal decongestant, as Dr. Sqad advised, and some cough medicine, Pectox. She says if I don't feel any better by next week to return for xrays etc. But I think I am on the mend, thank goodness, I am doing the Christmas Dinner again and want to get ahead. And I want to go out on Saturday night :). Thanks for all your advise.
