Two clues where the answer seems clear, but I don't understand the wordplay :-
1) Kitchen heater tested in couple's absence (4) O?E? Presumably it has to be OVEN, but why?
2) More than reasonable fare to Jupiter or Mars? (8) ?M?R?S?A Presumably it's AMBROSIA, but why "More than reasonable"?

I'm well aware that Ambrosia is the food/fare of the Gods. That wasn't my query. It was why "More than reasonable"? Thanks Calibax for your suggestion of "food of the gods being presumably better than average" but, honestly, that is very feeble and not worthy of a Times clue. Is there something else we're all missing?
